A medieval town with a rich past, the village of Charroux, nestling at the heart of Bourbonnais, is listed among the most beautiful villages of France. Its streets and paved alleyways offer a superb heritage for walkers and lovers of old buildings: ancient houses, a 12th-century church with a truncated bell tower, clock tower, market hall with wooden pillars, a residence with a timber frame and corbels from the 14th century, Cour des Dames, floral wells and fortified doors.
Wander through this charming village and you'll find a wealth of artistic and artisanal skills: oil and mustard, jam and soap shops, and workshops for painting, sculpture, glass engraving, pottery and candle-making are just some of the great places you'll discover on your stroll.
Also worth a visit is the Museum of Charroux and its Canton, which tells the story of the local area through collections of Gallo-Roman relics, ancient sculptures and archive documents.
