Nestling at the heart of the Saint-Pourçain vineyard, Chareil-Cintrat Castle, the former fief of the Bourbons which was redeveloped in the 16th century by Claude Morin, Ordinary Inspector of Wars, has been the property of the State since 1954.
Open to the public from mid-June to mid-September, the castle, a listed Historic Monument, is a special place with superb interior decoration, sculpted and painted, influenced by the Italian Renaissance: murals from the 16th century depicting mythological scenes, an astrological ceiling, monumental hearths and Doric, Ionic and Corinthian sculpted motifs, are just some of the wonders that Claude Morin had created upon his return from his military campaigns in Italy.
Behind the castle, land has been planted with traditional grape varieties by the conservatory of the old grape varieties of Chareil and Saint-Pourçain, in order to show and teach people about the skills and techniques relating to the cycle of the vine. The estate's cellar in the castle's outbuildings offers wine-tasting sessions.
