City of Art and History situated along the Saône river, Chalon-sur-Saône has a beautiful architectural heritage. The heart of the historic centre is the picturesque Saint-Vincent square, which is dominated by the profile of the cathedral and surrounded by beautiful old timber-framed houses. After strolling around the shopping streets in the old town, walkers should head to the Nicéphore Niépce museum, dedicated to the inventor of photography born in Chalon-sur-Saône and to photography in general. It is home to 6,000 cameras and optical objects, as well as over 3 million images!

Opposite the museum is Saint-Laurent island where you'll find the Tour du Doyenné tower, which offers a beautiful view of the city from the top, and the Hospital, which is home to a magnificent apothecary shop that's open to the public.

Also not to be missed is the Denon museum for its archaeology and fine art collections.
