City of Art and History situated along the Saône river, Chalon-sur-Saône has a beautiful architectural heritage. Heart of the historic centre, the picturesque Saint-Vincent square, dominated by the profile of the cathedral, is surrounded by beautiful old timber-framed houses. After the shopping streets of the old town, the walkers will not miss to visit the Nicéphore Niépce museum, consecrated to the inventor of photography born in Chalon-sur-Saône. Dedicated to the universe of photography, this place is home to six thousand cameras and optical objects, as well as over three million images! In front of the museum can be found the Saint-Laurent island, on which stands the Doyenné tower, whose summit offers a beautiful view of the city; and the Hospital which is home to a magnificent apothecary shop open to visitors.
