From Quai des Jacobins quay, there's a striking view of the old colourful houses of Castres lining the River Agout. These former tanners' and dyers' homes are a top tourist attraction and can also be admired from on board a picturesque wooden boat.
The Goya museum, housed in the former episcopal palace, is dedicated to Spanish painting and in particular the work of the famous Spanish artist Francisco de Goya.
Outside the museum, the Bishop's palace garden contains magnificent embroidery-like flowerbeds (parterres de broderie) designed by Le Nôtre. The old town also boasts some interesting mansions, including the Hôtel de Viviès and Hôtel de Nayrac.
