City of Art and History, Carpentras has preserved much evidence of the past. Former capital of Comtat Venaissin, Carpentras invites to visit its old town with the Saint-Siffrein cathedral, the Synagogue built in 1367, the oldest of France, the hospices and its apothecaries, and the Orange door, last remains of the medieval period.

The gastronomic speciality of the city are the strawberries as well as the berlingots, coloured candies made of sugar and peppermint aroma.
