This unique feat of civil engineering, built in the 17th century by Pierre-Paul Riquet, is at present a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 12,000 men working during 14 years were necessary for the construction of this spectacular Canal du Midi. From Toulouse to the Thau lake, this 240-km network of waterways has 64 locks, 55 aqueducts, 126 bridges and 7 canal bridges.

The Canal du Midi is a key tourist attraction, taking visitors through cities like Carcassonne and the landscapes of the Languedoc plain (vineyards, trees, orchards). Walking in the countryside alongside the canal is really peaceful and romantic.
