Inseparable from its imposing Genoese citadel dominating the sea, Calvi is the capital of the Balagne region. The town has a number of must-see sights, including:

• The fortifications of the citadel and the interior of the surrounding wall, with its old houses and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral, built in the 13th century ;

• The marina situated below is a place full of life with its numerous restaurants and cafés lining the quaysides;

• The Sainte-Marie-Majeure church of Baroque style and in shades of pink ;

• A beautiful 6 kilometres long fine sandy beach to relax on after visiting the old town.

A renowned music festival, “Rencontres Polyphoniques” is organised every year in September. This major event takes place in the citadel and brings together polyphonic (vocal harmony) groups from all over the world.
