Inseparable from its impressive Genoese citadel dominating the sea, Calvi is the capital of Balagne. Numerous sites of the city are inescapable:

  • The fortifications of the citadel and the interior of the surrounding wall, with its old houses and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral, built in the 13th century ;

  • The marina situated below is a place full of life with its numerous restaurants and cafés lining the banks;

  • The Sainte-Marie-Majeure church of baroque style and in the pink tones ;

  • A beautiful 6 kilometres long fine sandy beach to relax after visiting the old town.

A renowned music festival, the "Rencontres Polyphoniques" (polyphonic gatherings), is organised every year in September. This major event takes place in the citadel and brings together polyphonic groups from all over the world.
