Calais, France's number one passenger port, also benefits from its proximity to the English coast and from the Channel tunnel, the famous transport route connecting France to England. The city has preserved a few monuments from its past, such as the city hall, which is topped by a 75-metre high belfry, a 13th- and 14th-century church, and 13th-century watchtower. In front of the city hall stands the magnificent Bourgeois of Calais bronze sculptural group by Rodin.
