North of Carcassonne, the Black Mountain (Montagne Noire) rises gradually from the plain of the Aude until its highest point, the Nore peak at 1210 metres. It is ideal walking and riding country. The landscapes there are magnificent and mysterious. The Black Mountain (Montagne Noire) also has typical villages, such as Roquefère with its castle.
