Belfries are watchtowers topped by carillon bells and a weather vane, and either free-standing or attached to a town hall. They symbolise municipal freedom and can be admired in numerous towns in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. In the Nord département, the belfries of Bailleul, Bergues, Douai, and Dunkirk are all inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and are not to be missed!
