Capital of the Basque Country, Bayonne benefits from an exceptional geographic location by being situated at the confluence of two rivers: Adour and Nive, which join before throwing flowing into the nearby ocean. Bayonne is famous for the beauty of its restored old houses, its castles, its citadel, its quaysides and its museums. The houses' shutters painted in every colour (yellow, green, blue, red etc) really accentuate the town's picturesque character!
Bayonne is also famous for its various traditions, such as the Basque ball game of pelota of pelota, the ham fairs, the bullfights, the festivals in August... Finally, the city boasts numerous specialites such as the famous Bayonne ham or the delicious Bayonne chocolate.
