This game is the king sport in the Basque countryside. Every village possesses at least a fronton place, that is a place where one can play ball outdoors. This fronton is generally located on the main square in the village. Thus, the fronton is really in the centre of the daily life of the inhabitants. During summer, competitions take place almost daily. It is played using a sort of wicker basket and a wooden racket. But it is also possible to play hand bare, which is then considered as the true game. |
