Covering three regions (Franche-Comté, Lorraine, Alsace) and four départements (the Haute-Saône, the Vosges, the Territoire de Belfort, the Haut-Rhin), this reserve extends over 3000 km². The Vosge massif offers a series of landscapes such as mountains, round-topped mountains (ballons), and alpine pastures (hautes chaumes). The highest summit of this magnificent protected area is in the Haut-Rhin at the Grand Ballon (1,424 metres high). With its waymarked footpaths and Grande Randonnée hiking trails, the park really is a walkers' and nature lovers' paradise.
