Ariège Pyrenees Regional Nature Park (Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises), situated in the west of the département, covers 246,500 and reaches 3,143 metres altitude at its highest point, La Pique d'Estats. This superb territory boasts a wealth of natural, prehistoric and pastoral treasures including summer mountain pastures, unspoiled valleys, wooded hills, lakes and rivers, mountain passes with fantastic 360° views, typical villages, Niaux, Mas d'Azil, La Vache and Bédeilhac caves, Labouiche underground river and Ars waterfall.
Crossed by a vast network of waymarked walking trails, the park is also a top destination for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, fishing, rivers sports, horse riding, paragliding, cross-country skiing and climbing.
