Founded in the early 9th century by St. Barnard, officer of Charlemagne, the Benedictine abbey of Our Lady of Ambronay is now a social and cultural centre famous for its ancient and baroque music festival, which takes place each year in September and October.
On your tour you'll discover the gothic cloister along with the abbey church, with its stained glass windows and oak stalls sculpted in the 15th century, its 16th-century Pietà and the tomb of Abbot Jacques de Mauvoisin.
As well as its famous festival, throughout the year Ambronay social cultural centre offers awareness-raising activities relating to the arts, such as music, dancing, theatre, photography and more.
