• Origins and History of Xertigny ...

• Xertigny was founded about 60 BC during the Roman rule. Communication channels have been built (Baccarat to Bains-les-Bains), they are the source of a Roman camp: Certinium (a man named Certinius) who later became Xertigny.
• In 730, during a stop at a farm in Xertigny, a nun named St. Walburga was a fountain that never dried up. Legend has it that one, spinning her distaff, she dropped her ball of wool, which began to roll into the coast and only stopped at the place of the present church. The ancestors chose St. Walburga later as the patroness of the parish and a relic was placed in the church.
• On 1 October 1335, Xertigny and hamlets formed a community whose administration was entrusted to a mayor, four jurors and a dean. Their legal rights were acknowledged and a gibbet Xertigny rises Potet field (field of the post). Land rights were imposed.
• During the Thirty Years War, Lorraine suffered much religious wars. The Protestant armies from Germany crossed the country by spreading ruin and carnage. Then in 1642, the plague slew a great part of the population. Large cemeteries were established in open country. That of Xertigny was on the way to the pond clumps. A Gothic cross is left.
• The French Revolution: For the people to revolt in Paris, in the countryside July 26, 1789, 800 farmers in all villages invaded the office of the manor at Fontenoy-le-Château, destroying documents and records of the charges levied by lords. On February 26, 1790, France is divided into 83 departments, the Vosges in 9 districts, 60 cantons and 562 municipalities. Xertigny became the capital of Canton.

• Castle of the Brewers: In 1977, the town of Xertigny bought the castle of a wealthy brewer and its fleet of four hectares. He became City Hall January 7, 1981.
• Walk in the woods Beaudoin:

• Try a walk in the arboretum and wood Xertigny Beaudoin. A walk xertinois soon appreciated by the return of fine weather. Here you can see some of the beautiful trees of the arboretum: a California redwood, Douglas one of North America. This arboretum is located just behind the castle is actually the original park (4 hectares).
• The arboretum was established in 1994. It includes several remarkable trees, some of which were planted during the construction of the castle. It is a relaxing park with its wide lawns and shady alley Charmes Europe. But the ride does not end there ... Indeed, the arboretum extends into the wood Beaudoin, allowing walkers to find some shade.
• Above is another way. According to legend, this is where Victor Champion would have found the treasure of the Templars. Which would have allowed him to build the castle and to support the brewery. A bench marks the spot.
• After a few minutes walk you will find ponds wood Beaudoin. Areas, picnic were built. Why not stop by one of these ponds or Faisanderie for bowling? But it's not just the wood Xertigny Beaudoin, forests are waiting for wonderful walks around the town.
