A little history ...
The first handwritten village dates from the year 1120 under the name Winegresheim. The current name comes from Weingartheim, country garden and vineyard.
From the beginning, the wine acquires Wingersheim an excellent reputation. In 1257, Pope Alex 4th confirms ownership of the vineyard of the monastery of Wingersheim Hohenburg, now known as the Mont Sainte-Odile. In 1630, Wingersheim is the first of 45 villages of Empire to the payment of duties on wine. The vineyard enjoyed a bright start to the First World War. At the end of hostilities, lack of care and the spread of disease had ruined the local vineyards. Currently there remains little more than 5.5 hectares. Meanwhile, Wingersheim became "Hop Capital." The town now has 10 operators in 85 acres of hops, or 11% of the area planted in Alsace.

Sometimes, after a gust of wind, you will see an army of workers back on the wire plants become too independent. And by the end of the summer, you breathe deeply the scent of green hops bathed in sunlight.
