Westhalten means "the western slopes of Stragenberg" ( "West" = west and "Halden" = hills) over Rouffach. The village was part of Mundat bishops of Strasbourg, bailiwick of Rouffach, and formed a mixed community dependent Rouffach city and commune Soultzmatt. There was no court in the village and court cases were settled by the magistrate of the common parent. That is why Westhalten had neither seal nor coat of arms before 1792.
In 1788, residents formed their own assembly and declared autonomous municipality under the revolutionary laws. Rouffach Soultzmatt continued and yet their contribution to communal expenses. It was not until 1818 that Westhalten got its own municipal ban. The town built its prosperity in the 19th and 20th century, thanks to the wine.
Église Saint-Blaise: The first church Westhalten stood in the center of the village, the location of the current School Street Rouffach. It is mentioned for the first time in 1338 as a subsidiary of the parish of Rouffach and became an independent parish in 1450. A new church was built between 1836 and 1841, opposite the cemetery on the north of the village. The building is central nave with south aisle and porch-tower contains 4 bells.

The Bollenberg: the five largest limestone hills Township Rouffach for protected fauna and flora. Its Mediterranean microclimate makes it one of the limestone hills of France drier with annual rainfall of about 350 to 400 mm. Its fauna and flora mainly distributed between forest, grass and vines, are remarkable.

Feast of the Ass: late July.
Night Tourist: between July 14 and August 15. Animation with Alsatian folk dancers and traditional music on the village square. Refreshments available on site with pies outbreaks.
