Volonne is a small picturesque village situated on the Route Napoleon. Volonne is on the left bank of the Durance, clinging to a rocky outcrop surrounded by orchards and beautiful landscapes.
Strolling through the narrow streets of the village you can admire the beautiful old houses with beautiful medieval gates (Central Street). You will soon be under the spell of the typical Provencal atmosphere that reigns at Volonne.
You can not miss next to the town hall, the fortified 17th century castle with its grand staircase decorated with plasterwork. The street Vière you will discover the "Path of rounds" on the old ramparts.
By taking the path called "two towers" that leads to the clock tower and then to the watchtower, you'll have a wonderful view of the entire village and part of the Durance valley.
North of the village, you can visit the remains of Saint-Martin, who witnessed the early Romanesque art from the 11th century, and the former priory of Saint-Jean Taravon, further north in the direction of Sisteron.
SIGHTSEEING
The Church of St. Martin in the 11th century - Classified Historical Monument (MHC). It is a monument of the Romanesque Primitive. The Church of St. Martin is a building of basilica consists of a nave and two aisles of five bays. The basic materials used for its construction are limestone, sandstone and pebbles Durance. It is preserved essentially in its original structure. She has survived the centuries by undergoing turn violations of religious wars (burnt in the late 16th century) and then it was abandoned in favor of Notre Dame in the early 17th century.

The old castle - a historic monument and Submission (MHC - MHI). The old castle (Grand VIP lounge and decor) is listed as an historic monument by decree of September 8, 1987 (MHI). The hall, the staircase (decorated in 1647.1656: Mannerist decor) and its cage with its decoration of plasterwork are classified as an historic monument by decree of December 14, 1992 (MHC).
