Villiers-le-Bâcle date from the Gallo-Roman. The origin of the name "Villar" which means "village" defined very well.
Until the mid 20th century, the village Villiers-le-Bâcle was known for growing strawberries and violets. The charm of the village has attracted a Japanese artist of world renown, Leonard Fujita, lovers of France, converted to Catholicism. He lived in Villiers 1960 until his death in 1968. His house was his workshop became a place of memory property of the department of Essonne, it can be visited today.
The Chateau de Villiers, private property, antique Louis XIII, is surrounded by a large park of 40 hectares. A network of footpaths, including the GR 11 crosses the town along the gutter of the woods and passes along two former mills: New mill, the mill of vassals.

SIGHTSEEING
The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception: the original chapel of the 13th century, of which only the tower, gives way to a building rebuilt in about 1845 grit. Inside the church is a tombstone limestone, engraved, dated 1269. Beneath it was based Jean Esquire of The Neighbors represented in armor. The vault has a curious decoration work of a priest of the 19th century. Its cemetery, with its unique situation and the provision of headstones, including hosts the tomb of the painter Leonard Foujita.
The house-painter's studio Foujita: the 18th century, this house for two families of workers or growers, working on large farm (now called "Farm Vandame"). In 1959, the painter Foujita who buys the house and installed his studio upstairs. In it you can find a beautiful mural dating from 1965 for the period of religious painter, then converted to Catholicism.
The Chateau de Villiers: built for Michael Lucas, secretary of Louis 13th (which we find the family crest in the Notre-Dame), this castle is made of two pavilions in the garden wing and two others facing the court. The castle is open on time this year.
The laundry: Located on Route de Gif, along the "swamp Valley Bonnard, this millstone in laundry and wood was powered by a small stream from the castle and regulated by a sluice.
The castle of Barrere: This extravagant building, built in the late 19th century, combines grit, flint, rubble and plaster. He was born influences of neo-Gothic, neo-Moorish, neo-Louis 16th and Art Deco. Originality in a rural setting that does not pass unnoticed. Private property. Not open to visitors.

The large farm called "Farm Vandame" attested in the 17th century, it has an outer wall with buttresses and arched door in sandstone. Important building with a large yard, it still represents what rural life over the centuries. Before 1939 it included a distillery and a herd of cattle and sheep imported.
