Villeneuve-sur-Fère is the town that was born Paul Claudel, August 6, 1868. The family lived in Claudel Fere-en-Tardenois where Camille was born before December 8, 1864 and Louise in 1866. Paul, himself, was born in the parsonage where the family has become accustomed to spend his summer vacation. Then they move into the big house opposite the rectory and church.

Part of the Claudel family rests in the cemetery but neither Villeneuve-sur-Fère Camille (as in Montfavet Vaucluse) and neither Paul (Brangues in Isère).

Villeneuve-sur-Fère part of a circuit marked out of 6 km "in the footsteps of Camille and Paul Claudel." This loop leads through fields and woods, the basketful of hell, a place of inspiration, assiduously attended by Camille and Paul in their childhood. Camille was inspired in his sculptures and Paul made it the scene of some of his plays (the Announcement to Mary).
