This town, situated on an ancient Roman road connecting Tours to Bourges and the Orléans - Chateauroux, has been developed in the 19th century through the creation of Canal de Berry. This leak allowed the transport of goods between the Nivernais and Touraine (wood, materials, cereals ...). Since the closure of the channel, it became a place for walking and fishing.

There are still some monuments to the past of the town. Its 12th century church which was built by the Hospitallers - the latter had a commander near the remains of which are unfortunately not visited. There is also the Templar house one can admire the facade on the main street. There were also many tile manufacturer of colored tiles, decorative designs which can be traced on the roofs and facades of many houses.

Each year, the first Sunday of July, a large flea market located on the church square, leads the center of the town.

Nearby Mennetou-sur-Cher is a medieval city well preserved (guided tours in summer), which comes alive every two years (in July) during the Medieval Festival.
