Villefranche-de-Lonchat, a village between Isle and Dordogne Perigord, on the borders of Libourne, boasts an ancient origin and a rich historical past.

Founded in the late 12th century by Edward 1st of England, the bastide Villefranche-de-Lonchat followed a Gallo-Roman and a Benedictine priory. The Hundred Years' War saw the pass, in turn, under the French flag and the standard English depending on the fluctuations of the fighting.

A chapel which still exists, was built in the 14th century on one side of the central square.
