TOWN PRESENTATION
  • Vignacourt Picard is a village which lies in the Somme. Located 250 km from London, 150 km from Paris and 20 km from Amiens, Vignacourt covers 2800 hectares.
  • The name of Vignacourt, comes from the Latin Vinearum Curtius ... which means land of vineyards. Besides, you know that there is a Vignacourt wine, made by Australians? Currently, in the village there are two streets containing the term Vines: Path under Path to the vineyards and vines. In the past, there was more.
  • The spelling of the name of the village has changed several times: in 1090 Vinacurt, Vinacort in 1140 Winacourt in 1215 Vinarcourt in 1240 Vignacourt in 1273, Wignacourt in 1337. More than 14 spellings have been found to date.
  • Vignacourt is known to be a village traders. This is explained by the following facts: In the beginning, many people have exercised for Trades merchants: merchants son, linen, hats, cattle, hawkers and "Little white rabbits" ( nickname of the egg which rose and selling rabbits). Then fairs and markets were crowded and they had a regional scope. They were developed with the support of local lords and the approval of the King. Today, the number of commercial and artisanal activities remains high and diverse. And réderie a great success every year in May.
  • Historians who worked on the medieval period state that "many vineyards were planted around Amiens and the harvest was abundant." It was certainly not vintage wine but this time, the concern was to order food. The wine was widely used in sauces to spice up dishes. "This activity was as important as cultivating the land." The vines decline after the most rigorous winter of 1323.
  • Lordship Vignacourt: The Lordship of Vignacourt belonged chronologically:
  • To the families of the 11th century Amiens, Amiens Aleaume founded in 1146 the priory Moreaucourt,
  • To the families of Varennes in the 12th century,
  • From the fourteenth Rayneval
  • D'Albert Chaulnes the seventeenth,
  • For families Ailly, they revendèrent indebted to the lordship From Lieferman Calmer, bourgeois Hague who inféoda in 1779 in favor of Charles Francis Saddle.
  • Coat the village of Vignacourt: The coat of arms of the municipality consists of three lilies surmounted by a crown with 3 towers, elements inherited from the family crest Wignacourt. The knights who participated in the first crusades needed to differentiate themselves: this is the emergence of shields, coats of arms. They meet certain criteria, such as the choice of color according to region of origin. To the crest of Wignacourt several variants exist, as Simon (first cross the line) is composed of 3 red lilies on a gray background. The coat of arms of the village of Vignacourt also contains three red lilies on a gray background ...
  • Smugglers: Several facts about Vignacourt smugglers have been reported in the local press of the time. Taxes more important and higher quality tobacco Belgian (culture was strictly regulated in France), generated an increase in fraud. The smugglers were organized in groups or individually, on foot or by bike. Some of the animals used. Some dogs will let their lives, near the border, killed by the customs themselves accompanied by trained dogs. The risks were high for fraudsters. Smuggling is not limited to tobacco but to all kinds of goods to improve the troubled lives of workers: salt, wine, spirits, animals, tissues ... Smuggling decline after the Second World War.
  • Remains:
  • Mills: The street of the stone mill, street millers point to the existence past several mills. Millers in the street, there were two mills where individuals were grind their grains. These mills no longer exist. One was burned as evidenced by the name assigned to the path to the mill burned. Others may have disappeared during the war, as in some villages of the region.
  • Chaussée Brunehaut: Some sections of the floor are still visible in the direction of St. Vast. The Roman road through the forest.
  • Calvaires: The crosses were placed at intersections along the routes. There are several in Vignacourt, they are placed mainly at the ends of the streets. They have been refurbished in recent years. They allowed the Romans to identify the roads. They then became a religious symbol. In other departments, these markers were transformed into shrines.
