  • Vernon is located in the department of Eure in Normandy, in the valley of the Seine between Paris and Rouen, Giverny and borders, the famous painter Claude Monet.

  • 1049: First mention of Vernon in a manuscript.

SIGHTSEEING
  • Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame: Started late 11th century and ended in late 16th century, the collegiate cruciform plan is representative of the Romanesque and Gothic periods of various: facade of the 15th century with a beautiful pink flaming lantern tower of the 13th century a clerestory the 15th century. The bombing of the Second World War destroyed almost all the windows. But thanks to the restoration work done by the district, the college remains a witness of the artistic heritage of Vernon. Modern windows: G. Hermet Juteau and M. de Chartres. It houses a beautiful gallery organ from the early 17th completely restored in 1979.
  • Street Chapter: Spared bombing during the last war, the streets surrounding the college have retained their picturesque half-timbered houses and rustic tiles. At No. 3 / 5 is the only old houses remained standing two-storey timber-framed (seventeenth century). The canons of the collegiate once lived in this street. At the corner of it and Bourbon Street Penthievre: at No. 15, delicious house decorated with 16th century Gothic sculptures. Opposite, many one-storey houses with projecting eaves overhanging.
  • Old Gabelle (former salt to No. 5): Remains of the 17th century which belonged to the Duke of Penthievre.
  • Pavilion Penthievre: On the banks of the Seine, the flag of Penthievre, (last Lord of Vernon): 18th century hotel. It is here that the Duke had to spend a few hours listening to the grievances of his constituents.
  • Lane Malot: Remnant of a medieval street with central gutter.
  • Time-Jadis (Tourist Office) of the 15th century: At the corner of Carnot, and St. Saviour, two-story cantilevered surmounted by an attic. On the corner post, a "Annunciation" carved wood full. Historical Monument, the "Old City Coffee" now houses the Tourist Office.
  • City Hall: Built in 1895, this building houses the modern stained glass depicting the passage of St. Louis Vernon. The crest appears on the cover intrigues the visitor by the presence of bundles of watercress in its composition. In seeking the cause is a good exercise for the tourists as well as discover the interior, the ceiling of the marriage hall, a Norman by apple and another in the vineyards, arouses curiosity.
  • Philippe-Auguste Area: Walk along the Town Hall by the Sainte-Genevieve, cross the street until you reach Albufera and the Cultural Philippe-Auguste. Inaugurated in September 1992, it houses the theater, hall, library, music collection, conservatory and occasionally offers various exhibitions.
  • Tour of the Archives: On the Street Stables des Gardes area of ​​the old castle Vernon, leaving only the tower, designed by Philippe Auguste. Built in the 12th century, its height is 22 meters. In the late 18th century when the tower was no longer destined for war, it was intended to house the archives of the city, hence its name.
  • Jardin des Arts: Opened in July 2006, the Jardin des Arts offers Vernonnais an area of ​​greenery in the city center.
