Vergt is a kind of "village street" stretched along a stream. The old center is the meeting of two former parishes, St. Mary and St. John, settled around the year one thousand and a country house founded by Archambault III, in 1285 and 1286, free city into a population center in the heart of the forest.

Currently, only the map of the city remember the three sources: the circle of the two former parishes and grid plan of the mansion with its central hall of the 18th and 19th centuries.
