Located 10 km west of Brive-la-Gaillarde, the city is positioned to meet the river Loire and Vézère, 500 m from the castle of Castel Novel.

The town lies between the Massif Central and Aquitaine Basin, the excavated rock to build the village over the ages is wine red color due to the high content of iron oxide.
