The etymology comes from the name of an important northern farmer: Mr. Toufret. A 7-acre site is the subject of archaeological excavations since 1991. Indeed, a great Gallo-Roman villa from the 1st to 3rd centuries AD has been updated: production of clay materials, tiles, bricks, iron objects?

On the night of 5 to 6 June 1944, gliders and paratroops landed in fields and meadows on the outskirts of Touffréville. The commandos had destroyed the bridges over the Dives in Bures and Troarn to prevent the arrival of German reinforcements to the Normandy landing beaches, and then "win" in the Bois de Bavent Touffréville. Fierce fighting took place in the woods where the troops were entrenched occupation. Only two months later that the region was liberated thanks to the Royal Marines Commandos "who fought there from August 7 to 17.
