In the seventh century, shortly before Charlemagne, some monks of the abbey of Saint-Michel en l'Herm evangelize the town and come to build a priory and a church on the site of the Church of St. Peter. Very few writings remain of this large village. Four families lived Thorigny important during the Wars of Religion (1562 - 1598), two Catholic families - the Goulard and Thorigné - and two Protestant families - and the Villatte Chasteigner. These families were entrenched in strong support points which are still visible walls, porches, moats. The two Protestant families emigrated to England and Holland ... Apparently Thorigny played an important role in the wars of religion.
