Tarare, with its 10 865 inhabitants and 1 399 hectares, is a city, capital of canton in the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saone, in the western department of the Rhone and bordering the Loire. To meet the green Beaujolais and Beaujolais red, it is halfway between Lyons and Roanne (45 km).
Built in the river valleys, and the Turdine Taret, the city is slowly turning the hills that surround it. Today structuring of the city territory, Tarare is a place to go for shopping, services and equipment. In rural areas, people will find the facilities, shops and services in their capital of Canton whose attractiveness is reinforced.
The city was founded in early 12th century as a priory of the abbey Tarare Savigny. There lives while weavers, shoemakers and tanners, but also some small merchants and innkeepers.
The history of the town is linked to its textile industry (the muslin veil ...). Tarare owes its development and international reputation for its inhabitants, its position on the communication lines and water from its rivers. Sparkling granite mountains, fresh water is used for bleaching and dyeing. In the 18th century, George Antoine Simonet introduced the manufacture of muslin, fine cotton cloth and light. It is followed by other innovators who develop materials and processes to build and elevate the natural fibers and artificial synthetic finally. In the 19th and 20th centuries, a textile industry with a common denominator for the tissues, revolves around the word of Tarare: "City of muslin," "Sailing Capital", "capital of the curtain."

SIGHTSEEING
The campaign is largely preserved, the third of the town remains forested. The hikers, whether on foot, horseback or mountain bikers and beautifully marked trails. The fair of Saint Andrew's held every year in early November. But the event is famous for Tarare for over a century is the feast of muslin.
Every five years (years 0 and 5: 2010, 2015 ...), City Tarare organizes celebration of Rosie. It is an ancient event which takes its name from the fabric: muslin. This fabric brought the City of Tarare the rank of capital of Rosie and offered years of prosperity through the development of the textile industry. The festival lasts 10 days muslin, the city is decorated with more than 80 domes of muslin and daily activities are offered to residents (day family day child, concert, parade, car fashion show?). The 10-day festival will conclude on a parade of floats and bands collecting loan of 100 000 people.
