According toponymy, Souzy means "underground river".

The name would Souzy origin Suciacus Soscius "designating the name of a Roman leader. The town was under the dominance, for part of the Earl of the castle Fenoyl Les Halles, and another part of the fief of the menu.

The hilltop village and grouped around its church which dominates the valley "Plain" offers a splendid panoramic view.

• The Church:

• The first church dates from the 11th century. He was made a foundation for the monastery of Savigny. It was dedicated to Saint-Etienne and was located at Provencheres. Another building dedicated to the Virgin Mary was dedicated July 8, 1488 by William, bishop of Jerusalem, vicar general of Cardinal de Bourbon, Archbishop of Lyon. The parish once had a manuscript proving that dedication.
• The current church dates from 1861. It was built for a party on the grounds of the former. Several restorations have been made since: in 1970-1971, the central vault has been replaced by a canopy of exotic wood. In the chorus, it represents half of the sun. In 1988, the walls have been restored. In 1998 the tower and west facades have been restored.

• The former building of St. Joseph nuns:

• It was built before the presbytery, which dates from 1774. It was sold by Claude Lambert, a priest serving the church in the town of Souzy, April 21, 1832 to Miss Mary Amelia Chirat, religious order of St. Joseph, died May 3, 1847. On October 26, 1842, she established two religious legatees. On June 7, 1854, the nuns said they give out the house for the Congregation of Sisters of Saint Joseph Souzy installed since 1828.
• The Congregation of nuns has owned the house until October 15, 1999, the date of acquisition by the town. Many people took refuge, shelter, cover, and make use of spiritual forces. The mayors of the village testify. In 1828, the mayor wrote: "Next to the presbytery there for three years a large house built almost entirely at the expense of octogenarian priest of this parish. A small welfare has been established under the leadership of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph. There are educated girls of the town and the children of the poor. The poor old and infirm will be treated ". Known as "The House of Chicks", she received a sixty children aged 2 to 15 years. This activity ceased in 1982. From 1982 to 1993, when the departure of the nuns, the house was often used as shelters for families in the Medical Center Argentiere, sometimes for the homeless?
