Today the capital of the canton of the Allier, Souvigny retains a unique heritage associated with its affiliation to the powerful Abbey of Cluny.

Cradle of the Bourbon family, many graves remain the bodies of the royal family.

Souvigny identifies several events, including the living plant in late April-early May, the flea market in May, the medieval fair, which begins the last Saturday of July, the annual exhibition at the museum, Autumn Days music around the historic organ FH Clicquot the last weekend of September or the regional exhibition of antique books in November. Throughout the year, the association of artists and craftspeople, offers an exhibition "Banks poems" with fifty benches arranged in streets and gardens.
