Around the primitive church of St. Mary Souppes the 11th century and its Cistercian abbey of Sainte-Marie Cercanceaux the 12th century, the city will develop in the Loing valley, in the heart of Gâtinais from the Middle Ages to the Revolution.

But the real development of the city will be in the second half of the 19th century. The stone quarried Souppes will serve to build great monuments of Paris.
