Municipality located at the confluence of the Rhone and Ouvèze and consists mainly of a large plain enjoying a good irrigation.
It is bordered to the east by two hills: the Mountain (113 m) and Seve (90 m). The hills are largely occupied by vineyards (AOC Chateauneuf-du-Pape), fruit and vegetable crops.
The climate is Mediterranean.
In the second half of the 11th century, a stone bridge was built to replace a dilapidated wooden bridge. Now, the city, from 1063, took the name Pons Sorge, Pons-de-Provence in Sorghum and Pont-de-Sorgue in French.
