Joined to Strasbourg is the capital of Schiltigheim beer home in Alsace and in addition to its traditional breweries, food processing, mechanical industries, high technology activities. At the same time, the City has kept the Brewers and develop a way of life especially rich in associations, cultural and sporting. Particularly dynamic and clubs at the highest level in wrestling, basketball and football make the city a city active in sport.
In more than 13 centuries of history, Schiltigheim crossed adventure towns in the Rhine basin. In the 7th century "Sciltung" a Frankish warrior stands on a hill north of Strasbourg and founded what would become "Sciltungsheim" then the current Schiltigheim. Meanwhile, the city experienced the consequences of a story upset and was burned on several occasions.
From 1396, one of the first brewers settled in the village, but from the late 18th and early 19th century that the big breweries are established.
World-class breweries (Adelshoffen, Heineken, Fisherman, Schutzenberger), it is unfortunately only two breweries, Fischer (formerly Fisher) and Heineken.
It is the first Schiltigheim City Council Children was created.
Schiltigheim is connected to the center of Strasbourg by the line B of the TRAM and the bus network in the CTS (Compagnie de Transport de Strasbourg). A bus also connects to Schiltigheim Cronenbourg, Hautepierre, Hautepierre Hospital, outlying districts of Strasbourg. Schiltigheim Strasbourg and therefore benefit from a network of cycle paths to visit the area (bike rental service possible at several points in Strasbourg). Schiltigheim is 3 km from Strasbourg station: 30 min walk, 20 minutes by tram (line B and C). Strasbourg Cathedral is also 3 km (6 minutes by tram line B).
