Saverne, a city of about 12,000 inhabitants is located at the foot of the coast of Saverne and outlet of the valley of the Zorn, in the plain of Alsace.
Backed Vosges Saverne has always been an important step towards connecting the plain of Alsace Lorraine plateau.

From the time of the Gallic city, became Roman camp called "Tres Tabernae" until today, Saverne retains traces of its historic role of his past life - remains of Roman walls, medieval wall, church Romanesque cloister, half-timbered houses - the city appears in all its attractions in an exceptional natural site at the foot of wooded hills, crowned castle-forts that surround it, as so many superb and eternal sentinels. Art lovers, each year, Space Rohan offers colorful cultural season, during which you will be given to attend various theatrical performances. - Chateau des Rohan, the main witness of the rich past of the city, recalls the good times when the bishop of Strasbourg Saverne made his episcopal residence. Housed in the castle of Rohan, the archaeological museum presents a rich collection of Roman relics discovered on the surrounding peaks. The museum's collections of art and history complete this form and Louise Weiss museum helps to understand the beginnings of European construction.
- Near the castle, the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity with its imposing gatehouse of the 12th century, contains a pulpit dating from 1495, the work of Hans Hammer.
- The pedestrian area of the city, lined with old houses, invites you to linger. As you cross the streets you can discover many timbered houses. The most famous of them, the Katz house built in 1605 and 1668 was the home of the Receiver General of the diocese.
- The church and cloister Récollets, built from 1303 by Augustinian monks in the heart of the city, is a popular place to visit. The Gothic cloister, richly carved houses frescoes dating from the early 17th century.
- Minutes away from downtown, you can reach the castle of Haut-Barr, also called the eye of Alsace. Perched on three rocky outcrops, it offers an exceptional view of the plain of Alsace and the valley of the Zorn. Not far away, the tower of Chappe Telegraph and museum you have this system of telegraphy aircraft in service from 1798 to 1852. It is the only region Telegraph can see a demonstration of the device.
- Saverne, City of Roses owes its qualifier to the garden where the roses bloom during the summer months more than 1500 varieties of roses.
- The botanical garden in the heights of Saverne houses an arboretum and meadows which combines carnivorous plants, ferns and orchids.
- Every Thursday, Saverne offers its market with local produce, farm products and sidewalk sales and more. This market is held from 8am to 12pm on the Place du General de Gaulle, in downtown.
- Tuesday and Saturday mornings, always the same hours and on the same site, stands a small market with local products.
