TOWN PRESENTATION

At 450 meters high, comfortably sheltered from the foothills of the Livradois granitic among the oldest in France, the town consists of the common Sauxillanges with forty hamlets some reaching up to 650 meters. The clay valley that extends north, following the withdrawal of the waters that drowned the Auvergne before the arrival of man, still retains traces of the many ponds that punctuated.

While the water causes the cities, while rarely a river has borne his name so that the Water Mother, as she seems deeply linked to Sauxillanges. On its shores that the Gauls have gradually built around the Gallo-Roman head of Celsus and the small town which became much more later "Vialle" in Sauxillanges.

In the 10th century, twelve monks from the Abbey of Cluny working to develop the influence of the monastery on the region's heritage while increasing dramatically, thereby justifying his place among the "oldest daughters of Cluny.

A market is held every Tuesday, with (subject) of entertainment or demonstrations of knowledge during the summer.

A flea market / car boot is held for over thirty years the second weekend of April.

The main festival is the first weekend of September.
