TOWN PRESENTATION

The village name comes from the presence of silver mines that were exploited in the Renaissance.

On the industrial side, Sainte-Foy-l'Argentière has always been innovative. In the 19th century, a manufacturing porcelain was created by the Marquis of Fenoyl. With local clay deposit, our ancestors have made and then cooked in wood ovens, tiles engraved name Sainte-Foy-l'Argentière. In 1889 was created the "Great Tile Rhone" celebrated today throughout Europe.

It was enlarged at different periods, from the hands of several families. It belongs to the family of Fenoyl since 1772. Its ample and austere facade is flanked by two towers and a watchtower. In the Middle Ages, there was a moat fed by Orgeole. It also still sees loopholes on the walls, who participated in the defense.

La couleur noire de la façade est due à l'enduit qui a été utilisé : il venait du sous-sol local et contenait du charbon." onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#ebeff9'" onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor='#fff'">> The black color of the facade is due to the coating that has been used which came from the basement and contained local coal.
