Sainte-Agnès village, located 10 km from Menton, 800 meters above sea level on a rocky outcrop, is the highest coastal!
Excavations have uncovered a church dedicated to Saint Agnes, a young Roman in Déoclétien martyred in 303. In 1170, the village is owned by the Count Guido Guerra Ventimiglia before belonging to the County of Nice in 1258.
He agreed the County of Savoy in 1388 and 1748, the County of Nice is returned to Sardinia.
From 1793 to 1814, the County of Nice was annexed by the revolutionary troops, as the Principality of Monaco.
It is part of the Kingdom of Piedmont Sardinia in 1814 and annexed to France in a referendum in 1860!
