Saint Victor Malescours, Vicus Sancti Victoris (Victus = village), under the invocation of Saint-Victor. St. Victor is located on a site that had to be inhabited since ancient times, a high point overlooking the area and at the same time, a water point. It arrives by siphon from a distant, Mezenc, they say, and goes right angles. In fact the town was called Saint-Victor Malescours. During the Revolution, Holy and were removed from either Victor MaIescours. In 1799, the Saint was restored, but was finally removed from.
The first mention of the parish dates from 1138 (From the cartulary of Saint Sauveur Street). Another document, quoted by G. Tavernet at the University of Lyon, in 1224 evokes: Ecclesia Sancti Victoris.
- Built around the year 1000, with keystones and beautifully carved bases. The 10th century is an important moment where the monastic movement and invests in the territory relearns men wise use of land. The dismemberment of the empire of Charlemagne and the incessant conflicts that have opposed his successor, had installed a situation of insecurity and unrest which people pay the consequences. This is the time when many monastic settlements take possession of the territory, and make progress on agriculture and Christianity. D. Duby historian of the Middle Ages, defines this period as that of water and path. Its Romanesque nave. In choir ass oven this time. The Gothic aisles are a reproduction of those of the church of Saint-Didier and they date from 1550. The bell tower is a square of 11.35 meters, achieved in 1663. It bears this inscription: "Do well and let them talk" on the south side. The construction of the tower has caused some changes in the old roof, in fact, are visible in the attic of the 3rd span, the timber showing the connection of the roof against the north wall of the 1st tower. The 4th bay which is now the platform, is dated 1776, and was not open to the nave, for an opening on the roof of the nave to the east shows that the 4th bay had independent use . The forum is designated Tribune White Penitents brotherhood founded in 1741 by Jacques Molin, pastor of the parish. The octagonal spire, 16 meters high, is 1864. The last modification of the church dates from 1866, which saw the construction of the west facade, and the redesign of the 4th bay whose walls are not the same bill as those of the 3rd span. Furthermore, took place on that date, the modification of the 3rd bay, creating a slope to a single slope against the tower. It was probably then that the forum has been created as it is discovered today, and that the opening is facing the roof of the nave was removed because of the change in the roof that precluded any possibility of lighting in the East. The west facade is built around a portal tympanum depicting the "well of the Samaritan", a work of great value, Riocreux sculptor (born sculptor Saint-Victor-Malescours. Was still alive in 1826). Just de Serres, bishop of Puy, during his visit in 1626 had allowed 5 altars. This number was reduced to 3 thereafter. The chorus was lined with beautiful woodwork Louis XVI. Their decay was forced to remove them in 1912. The high altar was removed together with the Revolution and replaced by an altar from the abbey of Séauve and the communion table and wrought iron arch placed above the choir. Left in the chapel of the Virgin beautiful Pieta, clay and painted, installed at the foundation of a brotherhood of the Rosary by Fr Theodule, Capuchin, October 7, 1627. Above the main door, forum of the Brotherhood of the White Penitents, founded in 1741 by Jacques Molin, pastor. A brotherhood of penitents disappeared during the Revolution. On 1 May 1791, it had 77 listed.
- Until the beginning of the 14th century, the dead were buried either in the small cemetery surrounding the church or the church itself. The records are often "buried in the chapel of La Mure. This chapel was in the aisle of the church, the pillar between the chair and the next pillar. The walls uniting the pillars to the outside wall are now demolished. As in a short space, there were bones every time we dug a grave, they are collected and placed in a vault under the sacristy. It is reached by a trapdoor. There was a pile of bones.
