Legend has it that the town derives its name from what the town has emerged from the forest - from the Latin "silva" meaning "forest". The forest Verrières gateway to Angers, in fact covered this territory until the millennium.

The archaeological remains of a motte dating at least the 12th century and 15th century moat are still visible in the district of La Haie Joulain. Nearby, in the heart of the Parc André Delibes, is the reconstruction of a stronghold of the millennium. Ancestor of the stone castle, the castle motte is built entirely of wood and earth. This site is the reconstructed result of a consultation between archaeologists, historians and journeyman carpenters.

Saint-Sylvain-d'Anjou has the distinction of being "a village park." A set of common landscaped travels. A planning policy encourages the planting of hedges separative in subdivisions ventilated by the presence of numerous emails. At the entrance southwest of the town, is an orchard with more backup than 650 old varieties of apples and pears.

• The presence of archaeological remains of a motte dated 12th century and a 15th century fortified house on the town aroused the desire to restore a motte typical of 11th-12th centuries.
• Built entirely of wood and earth, the castle is the result of a concerted effort by archaeologists, historians and companions of duty. Initiated in 1984, the project was launched in 1993 with the opening of the site to the public.
• Designed as a teaching aid, the motte welcomes the spring of school who want to experience the Middle Ages in a fun and original.
• Activities for the general public are organized occasionally during the summer season.
• The animation of the motte is provided by the association "The Maisnie Joulain" and troops engaged amateur or professional promptly.
