In the 12th century, the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Sarlat (Perigord) founded a priory in Gascony eastern, central plateau between the shards and Lambon. They gave it the name of the patron saint of the monastery: Sacerdos, Bishop of Limoges (now Sardos). The site, surrounded by deep ravines, now accented with lakes and Combecave Boulet, offered a natural protection.
