Origin of the name of the patron saint (485-565), evangelizing the 6th century bishop of Dol.
Born into an ancient human settlement set on a hill surrounded by marshland, Saint-Samson was already legally qualified town in the 11th century. In the Middle Ages, was the fief of Raoul de Saint Samson, sir, companion of William the Conqueror at Hastings in 1066. Over the centuries, several other nobles divided the land, the village and the church, but it was especially Abbey Troarn which remained the main beneficiary.
