Town situated in the heart of the Dordogne, in the Landes, between Bergerac and Saint-Emilion, in a hilly and green.
His name is the patron saint of the church Saint-Rémy bishop of Reims.
The appellation of origin Sanctus Remigius (thirteenth century) is transformed into Remedy Sen (1289), then Remerius Sanctus (1365), in St. Remedy (16th century), later in Saint-Rémy de Montpon to become finally Saint-Rémy sur Lidoire.
The Lidoire borders the town to the south, separating it from St. Méard de Gurçon. The name Lidoire writes Lydouyre in 1674, probably comes from a Gallic word meaning "wide bed."
Parish Saint-Rémy is of ancient origin: it came under the tutelage of the Benedictine abbey of Uzerche in 1163. Dependent first part of the lordship of Gurson, Saint Rémy belong, from the 14th century until the Revolution to the lordship of Montpon; this after the purchase, the Prioress of Mas Robert, the field of Manhanie (the "magnates") by the third Lord Archambaud Montpon and Count of Perigord (1320-1323).
The old town in the South is composed of a few houses built below the old cemetery where stood a 12th century Romanesque church, which nothing remains as in very poor condition and banned the cult in 1838, it was completely demolished and replaced by the present church.
The old church served as the burial of priests and notables. In 1693, Roger was buried Buade, lord of Puychevallier noble living in a den which there remains no trace, it seems.
A descendant of another noble family, Joseph Victor de Laborie (born Louis 16th in 1792 and died 97 years after the turmoil in 1889), son of the lord of Saint-Jean-d'Estissac rests in the cemetery.
In the midst of the new town on a hill, we discovered a beautiful panorama, there stands the new church, built in 1840. The altarpiece, from the 17th century, filled with beautiful sculptures is interesting.
Secondary road 708 which runs through the town from north to south has "succeeded" in a way that allowed former cross the Lidoire or wading (summer) or using a ferry.
In the 13th century, a mill was established near the place called "The Fond du Bac", the "Port" (passage) of the Hoarse. At the location of the medieval mill, was the 18th and 19th centuries: the Moulin de Sable now disappeared. Missing also lime kilns and tile which constituted an important activity for centuries. The last brickworks closed in 1984 but still well worth a visit.
