In the green of the valley, near Montfort which it is separated only by the Risle, this is common, geographically at least, a sort of suburb of the capital. Saint-Philbert-sur-Risle, with a rich history, is a village in the economic dynamics and associations.
SIGHTSEEING
According to the archaeological excavations of 1993, the church of St. Philbert, dedicated to Saint-Ouen, was a college in the 11th century, before being re-used by the monks in the 12th century as a priory church and parish. We found a multicolored mural dating from the Romanesque period, representing the life of Saint-Ouen, and two 12th-century Romanesque windows. In the 13th century the church was destroyed and a second church was rebuilt in the shape of a cross. The 15th century was a turning point in the history of the church of Saint-Philbert: the chorus of the second building was destroyed, and a chapel was built on its foundations in the late Gothic. This event marks the separation of the parish church and chapel attributed to monks until their departure in the 18th century.
The priory of Saint-Philbert was founded around 1120, under the invocation of St. Peter, Boson, abbot of Bec, with the cooperation and support of Arnulf, Bishop of Lisieux. To compensate for the mediocrity of its revenues, the Abbey of Bec, whom he depended, had abandoned some of its rights, among other things the patronage of cures Appeville of Flancourt and Montfort. It was first inhabited by several religious, then by a prior, then he was completely abandoned. All his rights were then held by the Abbey of Bec, and the vicar of St. Philbert served the chapel adjoining the parish church. Today, the Priory is a very common, and there are only fragments of walls with a beautiful portal, a bread oven and a Norman-style building completely restored. Not far from the bread oven, is a fountain called "Radegonde" once popular for the healing of skin diseases.
