TOWN PRESENTATION
  • Location:
  • To the west of Brive-la-Gaillarde, the gates of Perigord and Quercy, in the Community of Communes Causse Vézère-which includes the municipalities of Chartrier-Ferriere, Chasteaux, Larche, Lissac on Couze and San Cernin Larche.
  • Altitude: Village - 100 m; Gumont - 226 m (highest point); Belotte - 88 m (lowest point). Its area is 2 347 hectares.
  • Due to its location its development is important: 4594 inhabitants recorded in 2008. Industrial areas, craft and trade provide a very high activity. Major advantages to this development, the proximity of the A20 Paris-Toulouse and Lyon-Bordeaux A89. Part of the Brive-Laroche airport is situated on its territory (20 ha). Two return flights Brive-Paris daily except Saturday.
  • Villages: Left Bank: Lestrade, the Rieux-Tord, Tord, Laumeuil, Grange, the Marquesas Picadas, Puyfaure the Nadal, the Guierles. Right Bank: Lavarde, Roche Basse, La Roche-High, the Nicoux, Gumont, Audeguil, The Chanet, Renaudet, Crouzet, Puymorel, Cramier, the Cave, the Mouneyrie, Belotte, Bernou the Jarousse, Vinevialle Barbier, The Kittens, bullhead, the Reinga, Vermeil, The Chanet, Barbier.
  • Belle Parish, near the Vézère who receives the Correze, in a beautiful plain, crisscrossed by the two overland and railway that connects Lyon to Bordeaux. The town is dominated by a viaduct 17 feet high, 5 semicircular arches of 11 meters span (1860). The right place to enjoy the bridge is more modest overland (1846) "in the most graceful landscapes emerge in the arches of the viaduct, and their backs, were lined on the river of one tree look very relaxing. The name of the town comes from the patron of the parish. Pantaleon was born and lived in Nicomedia (now Izmit, Turkey, north of the Sea of Marmara). Converted to Christianity. He made several miracles. Doctor of the Roman Emperor Galerius Maximian, he refused to recant her faith in Jesus Christ and was beheaded after suffering many tortures and cruel July 27, at 305. It is considered a "Very Great Martyr" by the Orthodox who call Panteleimon. Thanks to the distribution of his relics (after the 7th century) that the parishes and municipalities bear the name. There are numerous places of worship to the saint throughout Europe including France and ten municipalities are named or derivatives thereof: Pandelon, Pantaly, Plantar.
  • New archaeological sites dating from the Upper Palaeolithic (- 40.000 to - 9.000) to the Middle Ages are present on the town. The "Roman Road" from Lyon to Bordeaux passes south of the town. Coal mines have been exploited in the 19th century Bernou.
  • The existence of the town called Saint-Pantaleon-of-Rot, is attested in the 12th century. On the left bank of the Vezere, a priory of the bishop of Limoges was the name that became "The Rock" over the centuries. Another Priory is also attested to Gumond under the patronage of St. John the Baptist. As part of Canton de Larche, to differentiate it from Saint-Pantaleon-de Lapleau, the town adopted the current name. In 1793 she became known as "The Brotherhood", and found his identity in 1795. The votive feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of July.
  • The Patron Saint of the city is that Pantaleon was born in Nicomedia (now Izmit in Asia Minor). He practiced medicine and worked miracles that earned him his sanctification. Despite this he was martyred around 303 under Diocletian who persecuted Christians. Legend has it takes precedence over history, we do not know. During a pilgrimage to Saint Jacques de Compostela, Saint Pantaleon stops in the city and gave it its name. It should be noted that seven towns in France bear his name.
  • In the 12th century it was called Saint Pantaleon Rot because of a priory located east of the Vezere became over the centuries Roc without knowing the real reason. She later took the name of Saint Pantaleon de Larche.
  • In 1793 she was débaptisée and was called "The Brotherhood". In 1795 she found her identity.
  • Work on the shores of Vézère were very numerous, but also not forget the fishing has in the past of juicy anecdotes. In the 18th century the fishing rights on navigable rivers belonged to the King and other rivers to the Lord, a senior judge who farmed out to individuals.
  • Ports:
  • The Vézère has always played a vital role for its residents. Before the construction of bridges crossing the river was possible through bins. Four sites were listed: The ports Grange, Roc, Bourg and Vinevialle. In the 18th century the port of Le Bourg was not focused on state funds.
  • Harbor Grange belonged to Lord de Noailles, leased to Meyjonade Antoine, Pierre and Pierre vitrata Perinet the village of Grange for the sum of 5 pounds.
  • Bridges: In 1820, a study was undertaken to build a road bridge at Bourg. The jokes flowed against the authorities. Explanations were given on the merits of this bridge and the ease with which one could cross the river despite doubts that persisted in the minds. The bridge lasted 3 years and June 25, 1846 he was commissioned. This had resulted in the gradual disappearance of the ports especially that of Bourg and Roc. The Grange resisted a little longer because the bridge Grange was built in 1890. With the advent of bridges a page of history had finally turned, as memories nonetheless, remained engraved in the tormented life of Vézère. The river came to live with the creation of the highway bridge, a major chapter in its history. Suddenly another new railway bridge was about to climb over. The project was put under review in 1850 and work was completed in 1860 after 7 years of hard work.
  • The Industry of Yesteryear: The mine shaft. A feature of the evolution of life in the 19th century, the search for coal in Limousin. Saint Pantaleon is no exception to the rule. In 1815 a well was dug in the plain Bernou. It was the deepest in the region: 432 meters. According to the engineers that well should be the most productive basin of Brive, unfortunately, the ore was not an appointment or in very small quantities, according to county records. It was abandoned in 1885.
  • The Illustrious Men: Two famous men born in St. Pantaleon:
  • Charles Orimonte of Feletz was born in the village of Gumont January 3, 1767 and died in Paris February 25, 1850. He was an academician and curator of the Mazarin Library. Eminent critic he distinguished himself in the Hansard.
  • Annet Couloumy Antoine was born in the town August 26, 1770, he climbed all the rungs of the military and became Brigadier General August 30, 1813. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Leipzig October 29, 1813. The bust of General Empire stands on the church square, a place which bears his name.
  • St. Pantaleon is celebrated the last Sunday of July. Vestiges including cemeteries, villages and Audeguil The Cave reflect its distant past.
  • City sports: 28% of the population owns a sporting license. This earned the town to be 3 times more common sports in the top 19 of the General Council. Nearly 30 sports and cultural associations.
  • The legal population in force from 1 January 2010 is 4625 inhabitants.
