A little history ...
Saint-Mont village is built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Adour river Gascon. This location has made this village a place steeped in history. Inhabited since the dawn of humanity, this mountain was consecrated by the Druids and Romans, to whom we owe our civilization, which made this strategic site a strong point: an oppidum.
Introducing different cultures of the vine, they built temples in which they offered sacrifices to pagan gods. In the year 1050, a local lord, Bernard Tumapaler founded on the ruins of the old oppidum, the monastery dedicated to St. John and connected to the order of Cluny. The monks occupy the place until the French Revolution and in 1791, the Monastery will be auctioned as a national asset.
Saint-Mont in the Gers, (324 inhabitants) is a historical village where they live. In 1972, some residents found a 1901 association called Rural Home. Since then, the tradition is perpetuated. The home, with entertainment, punctuates the life of Saint-Mont. If you visit Saint-Mont, do not miss a walk in the old village. The medieval atmosphere will surprise you. The main street, rue Sainte-Barbe, has been redeveloped to the satisfaction of the walkers. The most important event of Saint-Mont is of course the wine festival. Saint-Mont his famous vineyards every last weekend of March. Many events, tastings await. The third weekend in June, the local festival the last Saturday of July is the feast of the district's Cos., and the second Sunday of August is the fishing contest with his traditional meal in the open air.

Saint-Mont is a central point to navigate the surrounding Gers (Plains Arros and Adour, Coteaux d'Armagnac) and any nearby Landes (Tursan) and the Hautes-Pyrenees (Madirannais) and the Pyrenees-Atlantiques ( Bearn, Vic-Bihl).
During the weekend of the Wine Festival (last weekend of March) you can roam the earth Gers and visit the Tower of terms used d'Armagnac (12 km) and its museum, attend a novillada Plaisance -du-Gers (20 km), visiting the territories of Jazz in Marciac (35 km). Finally, Lupiac village birthplace of D'Artagnan, you expect (25 km). And that day, you will end your evening in the streets of Aignan (25 km) for a lively evening with tapas.
