Perched mid-hillside, place the cord Saint-Michel-de-Vax houses along a geological fault overlooking the gorges of the Aveyron, between the departments of Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne.
To the fifth century, monks from the valley of the Vère move into a cave that probably served as the worship of pagan deities, located at a place called the Combe de Batz (Batz, sounding Celtic meaning "meeting place" ) and gives the name of St Michael.
The castle (not open), built between 1200 and 1250, was responsible for building the village. The Lord of St Michel Lacombe, Empire General, was born in 1753 and died there in 1812 after a distinguished career immortalized in the "Georgics" by Claude Simon, one of his descendants, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1985.
