This very old municipality covers an area of 2751 ha, it is remarkable for its diversity of landscapes: the middle of both aquatic and wooded, close to the sea, overlooking the Charente, woodlands and marshes s' rub.
St. Lawrence now has almost 2000 inhabitants whose life is organized around two main poles and several hamlets:
The town center with town hall, multipurpose hall, church, shops, gardens, narrow streets, its hills, its houses and its traditional slippers recent constructions. It continues to the Charente in a place called "The Rocks" that overlooks the marsh and into the ocean to "Les Charmilles", without forgetting that the town hosts a "business area" of ten inter- artisans and merchants.

SIGHTSEEING
The church: fully restored, one can observe some graffiti dating back 1000 years. At the whim of successive amendments, the styles are mixed: for the pre-Romanesque nave, the portal and the south chapel, Gothic choir, 17th century bell tower. The windows are new.
The "closed Stones": Near the Houmée, one can observe two dolmens of which is intact (listed building). These megaliths are of the very special and very rare because they consist of two stones: a large block whose interior was excavated and a capstone. Archaeologists have established with certainty the destination of these funerary dolmens.
The Canal locks Charras Charras The channel Saint-Laurent-de-la-Prée borders along the Charente, from a place called "Under the Rock". We pass through the locks of La Roche, the Parpagnole, then continues on to St. Peter at the lock of Linguette to the bridge of Charras. An old lock house is visible, and the subject of a rehabilitation project. The channel Charras is a favorite spot for fishermen, especially at high tide, and for walkers. The canal continues north beyond the limits of the municipality.
The squares on the Charente: The squares are among the images that you retain the sins of the coastal landscape of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Prée. A net is a fisherman's hut, the waterfront, built of wood on stilts and connected to shore by a jetty. The large net square, hung from a pole, came down and lifted using a hoist. You can see along the banks of the Charente, and fishermen found there were always kind enough to show you this fishing technique.
The railway stop: It is equipped with a ticket machine under cover. You can buy train tickets and pay by credit card or the card with Moneo. A terminal is also installed for tickets Pass. All information is displayed in the shelter.
The Swamp: Particularly rich in the diversity of its flora, which varies with the seasons, and its wildlife, the marsh is a living environment in which plants and animals are closely related. Here, birds have a special place because the marsh is a nesting place and residence for migrants. What a pleasure to watch a heron or an egret searching for food, to see happen with the spring shelducks and geese, and go for a walk to see the storks in their nest.
