PARISH Saint-Just-en-Bas was founded by the Canons of the Church of St Just in Lyon. It came directly from them for the revolution.
To distinguish it from other parishes who as patron St Just, bishop of Lyon, it is called St. Just in the Netherlands, not because of its location but because of the hamlet of Holland who was the first inhabited place, which still exists.
Saint-Just-en-Bas is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century. In the 12th century, the territory embraced those Chalmazel and PALOGNE. Under feudalism, he was constantly torn between three lords: the Chalmazel of Couzan, and rent noble Colombette.
Until the 19th century, the parish included the municipalities of Saint-Just-en-Bas and Jeansagnière.
Under the Revolution, the parish priest was the famous priest Perrin who swore allegiance to new ideas and was, as such, difficulties with his superiors. In 1789 the village had 1600 residents.
There was also in the Revolution of weaving hemp to make cloth.
In the 19th century, the population was predominantly agricultural, then had numerous sawyers who went to work throughout France. Some went to Italy.
The town was long known for its fairs whose origin dates back to 1510.
Today, farming remains important in this little village and welcoming.
